On a whim, we decided to visit the STPI Open House 2025: Hike & Seek during the March holidays. What began as a spontaneous outing turned into an immersive experience, with our family spending almost the entire day just exploring the myriad of activities and workshops offered!
We were greeted warmly and the kids were given a wonderful goodie bag upon entry (there were Oatside milk, Milo bars and assorted snacks in a Muji tote bag!). Inside, there was a range of drop-in programs suitable for all ages. We were pleasantly surprised to find that admission and most activities were free, so we just wandered around letting the kids pick what they wanted to try.
They tried out so many activities! They made Stencil Flags, created Fungi Friends temporary tattoos, did Tote-bag Screenprinting and Lithography. Each activity had its own queue, and while some wait times were longer than others, our children remained surprisingly patient that day.

We really loved these two well-designed pocket guides. The kids collected stamps at each of the different checkpoints, and it was super fun!
They got tired after trying out so many activities, but fortunately, there was free ice cream and popcorn!
The Papermaking: Head in the Clouds workshop stood out as a highlight, despite its approximately one-hour wait time. This super popular session invited participants to craft their own paper pieces, guided by STPI’s skilled in-house papermakers.
It was well-organised, with the usher giving an engaging introduction to the art of paper-making prior to our turn. Our children were particularly fascinated by the hands-on process, which involved immersing their hands into tubs of cool, pulpy water to form their paper sheets. They eagerly selected blue and purple hues for their creations, resulting in unique, handcrafted pieces that they were proud to take home (we will frame them up!).
This immersive experience not only sparked their creativity but also answered the question they have been asking me: How is paper made?
We had so much fun, and it was such creatively fulfilling family adventure!
