Review: Pasta-Making at Grub Pasta Kitchen

Grub has always been a well-loved name in Bishan, and we recently returned after quite some time — this time to check out their dedicated pasta restaurant, which comes with something extra special: pasta-making workshops for kids!

J participated over the March holidays, and it turned out to be such a hands-on, heartwarming experience. The kids started by mixing and kneading their own dough, learning the steps from scratch (literally!). They then rolled it out and shaped it into soft little pillows of gnocchi—something simple yet so satisfying for little hands.

Once their dough was done, it was left to rest. Each child got to pack up their own batch of gnocchi dough in a tub to bring home for cooking the next day — such a fun way to extend the experience beyond the workshop itself.

Then came the magic moment: the kids used pre-rested dough prepared by the chefs, which was quickly boiled and topped with a simple tomato-based sauce. J got to taste the pasta and she finished the whole bowl!

The workshop was cheerful, well-organised, and just the right length to keep young kids engaged. If you’re already a fan of Grub’s food, this adds a lovely, creative layer to the experience — and makes for a very special (and delicious) weekend activity.

The next day…

The next day, J actually remembered the dough and asked if we could cook it for lunch.

We kept the rested dough in the fridge overnight (Grub had packed it neatly into a plastic tub for us), and it was still perfect for cooking the next day. Just let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before shaping or boiling—it softens up nicely!

I also love that they provided this beautifully-designed recipe sheet!

I followed it to make the pasta sauce, and she proudly helped prep the pasta. When it was ready, she finished the whole bowl — no leftovers! There’s something so special about kids eating what they’ve made themselves, start to finish.

Little Notes

Booking: Workshops are not walk-in, so keep an eye on Grub Pasta Kitchen’s IG or Eventbrite listings — they tend to release new slots in advance for school holidays or weekends.

Parents can join in the fun: The session is great for kids aged 4 to 10, though younger kids may need a little help with the kneading and rolling. At our workshop, most parents joined in the fun! But if your kid is independent, you can chill and enjoy a drink!

On Our Bookshelf

Stars on Orchard Road brings readers into the magic of Christmas in Singapore, where Orchard Road glows with festive lights and sparkling stars. Through a young child’s eyes, the story captures simple holiday rituals — strolling under the lights, soaking in the excitement, and sharing the season with family.

When I first picked up this book, it brought back memories of my own childhood — strolling along Orchard Road during Christmas. Now, I do the same walk with my kids. This picture book is a warm, celebratory read that captures a uniquely Singaporean Christmas — one that has grown into a tradition of its own, and one that can now be passed down, page by page, to the next generation.
