Review: DIY Mooncake Kit by Tiny Hoomans

We’re not exactly a baking family — but thanks to Tiny Hoomans, we’ve discovered how fun and doable it can be with the kids.

During Chinese New Year, we made pineapple tarts using their DIY baking kit, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our celebrations. The kit came with everything we needed — pre-measured ingredients, an easy-to-use tart press, and clear, kid-friendly instructions. The kids had a blast rolling, pressing and “quality-checking” the jam. The results were far from bakery-perfect, but made with so much heart (and sticky fingers).

More recently, Tiny Hoomans sent us their no-bake mooncake making kit — and we got to try our hand at crafting our very own snowskin mooncakes. The kids were so excited to play with the colourful dough and fill their mooncakes with lotus paste and chocolate chips.

It turned into a creative, tactile activity that also sparked little conversations about Mid-Autumn traditions — why we eat mooncakes, and how the moon looks round and full just like our creations.

I really appreciate how thoughtfully designed these kits are — simple enough for young children, but satisfying and festive enough to feel special. More than anything, they gave us a chance to slow down and make memories around the kitchen table.

Thank you, Tiny Hoomans, for making it easy (and meaningful) for families to create, connect and celebrate — one little tart or mooncake at a time.

Stars on Orchard Road brings readers into the magic of Christmas in Singapore, where Orchard Road glows with festive lights and sparkling stars. Through a young child’s eyes, the story captures simple holiday rituals — strolling under the lights, soaking in the excitement, and sharing the season with family.

When I first picked up this book, it brought back memories of my own childhood — strolling along Orchard Road during Christmas. Now, I do the same walk with my kids. This picture book is a warm, celebratory read that captures a uniquely Singaporean Christmas — one that has grown into a tradition of its own, and one that can now be passed down, page by page, to the next generation.
