Hong Kong Disneyland Magic Part 2

February 2024

Day 4! After a challenging first day, we were thrilled to return to Hong Kong Disneyland as a family, ready to fully immerse ourselves in the magic.

We took the hotel shuttle, and once again, this was YB’s favourite ride! Haha!

There are 8 themed lands here, including the newly-opened World of Frozen and 21 rides. We decided to navigate the park anti-clockwise, starting our adventure in Adventureland.

Adventureland: A Voyage into the Wild

Our journey began with the Jungle River Cruise, a guided boat tour through exotic landscapes teeming with animatronic wildlife and thrilling surprises. We were captivated by the lifelike “animals” and the dramatic fire effects, which added an exhilarating touch to the expedition.

Toy Story Land: Playtime in Andy’s Backyard

Continuing our anti-clockwise exploration, we ventured into Toy Story Land, a vibrant area that shrinks you down to the size of a toy in Andy’s backyard. The whimsical design and larger-than-life toys created a playful atmosphere that delighted both kids and adults.

  • Toy Soldier Parachute Drop: J and I braved this thrilling ride, experiencing the sensation of a parachute drop as we soared into the sky and gently descended, all under the watchful eyes of Andy’s green army men.
  • Slinky Dog Spin: YB found joy in this gentler attraction, where we rode atop Slinky Dog as he chased his tail around a giant food bowl. The smooth, circular motion made it perfect for younger children.

Fantasyland: Classic Delights for All Ages

In Fantasyland, we enjoyed timeless attractions:

  • “It’s a small world”: As we floated along this delightful boat ride, we were serenaded by a joyful chorus of children from around the globe, each representing their unique cultures in colorful displays. We really enjoyed this!
  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant: YB was captivated by this as we soared above Fantasyland aboard our own Dumbo, controlling the height of our ascent with a simple lever. He’s not a big fan of thrills, so this was perfect.

World of Frozen

Our visit to Hong Kong Disneyland reached a new level of excitement as we stepped into the World of Frozen, an area that brings the magic of Arendelle to life.

Walking through the Arendelle village, we were surrounded by charming architecture and scenic landscapes straight out of the movies. The attention to detail made us feel like we had truly entered the kingdom of Arendelle.

J was especially eager to share the Frozen Ever After ride with me. This enchanting boat journey takes you through memorable scenes, complete with beloved characters and iconic songs. The highlight was the exhilarating backward plunge during Elsa’s rendition of “Let It Go,” which left us both in awe.

She also got to try many Frozen snacks – like this chocolate-covered apple, and have her hair tied into pretty braids!

Happily ever after

One of the aspects we appreciated most about Hong Kong Disneyland is its manageable size. Unlike some larger Disney parks, this one allows you to experience a wide array of attractions without feeling overwhelmed. We were able to navigate the park leisurely, ensuring that both the thrilling and milder rides were enjoyed by all of us.

We left the park in the afternoon to head back into the city. Mongkok, here we come!

Visit during off-peak periods: To enjoy shorter lines and a more relaxed atmosphere, consider visiting during weekdays and avoiding public holidays. We chose Thursday and Friday.

Download the official Disneyland app: It’s genuinely helpful — you can check ride wait times, see the map, mobile order food, and even locate toilets and nursing rooms. We referred to it constantly and it saved us a lot of back-and-forth walking.

Arrive early for popular attractions: Attractions like Frozen Ever After and Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs can have long wait times. Arriving early allows you to experience these rides with shorter queues. But our experience really wasn’t that bad – we even went for Frozen Ever After a second time in the later part of the day!

On Our Bookshelf

Stars on Orchard Road brings readers into the magic of Christmas in Singapore, where Orchard Road glows with festive lights and sparkling stars. Through a young child’s eyes, the story captures simple holiday rituals — strolling under the lights, soaking in the excitement, and sharing the season with family.

When I first picked up this book, it brought back memories of my own childhood — strolling along Orchard Road during Christmas. Now, I do the same walk with my kids. This picture book is a warm, celebratory read that captures a uniquely Singaporean Christmas — one that has grown into a tradition of its own, and one that can now be passed down, page by page, to the next generation.
